Using Google Calender as a Teacher Plan Book
Imagine having your lesson plans at your fingertips no matter where you are - being able to share it with anyone who needs access - and coordinating it with your personal calendar. This can all be done with Google Calendar! As more districts are moving to Google Apps for Education, teachers will increasingly rely on Google Calendar for scheduling, but it is also possible to create a basic teacher plan book in Google Calendar - to save yourself the challenge of maintaining a paper plan book. Give it a try with the following steps:
1. Create a new calendar called (last name) Plan Book. Share this calendar with other teachers, administrators, or personal accounts per your preference.
2. Create a new event by clicking "Create Event" and title the event "Block 1" or "Period 1"
3. Set the appropriate times and then click "Repeat" and identify which days of the week the block meets and for how many weeks. *This is best for scheduled blocks that meet at the same time on certain days of the week
4. Click "Save" and then repeat for as many blocks as needed.
You will now have a Google Calendar with blank block periods that is now ready to be completed with brief lesson plans. You can also share your calendar and invite other teachers or admins to any of your blocks using Calendar's sharing capability.
5. Double click any individual block to enter specific information about that class period. Fill in the title with a brief overview of the days activities and complete the "Description" field with as much detail as needed.
